Its a new week

Some how I got lost in last week. I guess its a good thing to do every once in a while but it makes a very boring blog for all of you to read.
Here is a quick recap of what last week involved; a few hair cuts, many loads of laundry, and lot and lots of great family time.
It a new week now, so we are starting fresh.
The littles got baths. They both love to splash around in the water but neither one likes to get their hair washed.
It was so nice to curl up with both littles in the rocking chair and snuggle until both were sound asleep. It hard for me to believe that in less than a month the little lady will be a year old and even harder for me to believe that the little man is almost four. WOW!!
Not only do my kids get to start off the week clean but so does my sink.
This is the first time in forever, months, a long time since there has not been one dish in my sink. It feels good.
Its also nice knowing that there is a large batch of bread dough sitting in my fridge just waiting to be cooked tomorrow.
Its a new week.

Flash back

Yesterday my sister posted a picture of me and her on her blog when I was about 8 or 9. I cant remember when the photo was taken or even who's birthday it was. So I decided to dig up an old photo to add to the fun. So lets flash back to 1986.

That is my sister holding me when I was about the same age the little lady is right now.
Aren't old pictures so much fun?

Amazing mama trait #4

Our ability to give birth

Not a day goes by that I dont look at my children starry eyed and amazed that they were once so small that they fit in my belly.

The little man will be three next week. THREE!

When I look back upon my labor with him I am just relived that it did not turn out any worse. I am not saying it was bad, I am just saying I got sucked into the birth trap and things could of gone wrong real quick.
I was 20 when I gave birth to the little man. We attended birthing classes. I read some books. I felt prepared. I thought a natural child birth was just going to come well, naturally.
When my doctor said that she would induce me, I was all for it. She never explained to me the risks. I just assumed that since she was the doctor and she knew best.

I had no fears about being induced.

After about eight hours of medicated, medically induced labor I gave birth to a healthy little boy. In that second I became a mama.

In between the time after the little man was born and before I got pregnant with the little lady I did more research on birth. Its not that I had an horrible experience giving birth to the little man, I just wanted something different.

My birth experience with the little lady was amazing, you can read the whole thing here.

The way that my children came into this world did not make me love them any differently. I am just glad that I was able to bring them into this world.

Our little town continued...

from yesterdays post
Last night our neighborhood and community got together to remember young Kelsey's life.
I had anticipated there being many people but I guess I was a little shocked as to how many young people there were.

It got me thinking about my life at 15.
I had short spiky brightly colored hair. All my clothes were from the thrift store that I would alter and add my own flair to. I wore black framed glasses and barely showered.

I had just started coming to church and it was very rare for me to miss a youth group event. I can honestly say that if I was 8 years younger Kelsey and I wound have been in the same click.
We were all asked after the candle light vigil to share our stories about Kelsey on facebook. I did that last night but I also wanted to share on my blog.
I never met Kelsey, but her story and live have made an impact on my life and many of the lives of people I come into contact with on a daily bases. I will remember her life every time I walk or drive past that wooden cross there on the side of the road. The life that was taken so soon all because one man decided to have a drink or two, get behind the wheel and hit young Kelsey as she was walking down the road.

* Yes, I did just take a picture of a picture. Yes, we do own a scanner. No this is not the first nor the last time I will do this.
** I think the pictur on the top right I am 16 but I think that you still get the idea.

Two years ago

I wrote this post and I entered the world of blogging.

Who knew two years later I would still be blogging?

Two years ago the hubby was plumbing, working a 40+ week. I was learning what it was like to be a stay at home mom. I was also watching a few kids a few days a week just trying to make ends meet. We did not have internet so I would piggyback on the neighbors, go to the library or a family members house to blog. We thought life was hard.

Now the hubby has been layed off for almost a year. I now know what it means to be a SAHM of two. I am not bringing in any income but we are still making ends meet. We have our own internet. We dont think that life is too hard right now. We have just learned to make adjustments.

One of the great things about blogging is the ability to made a snapshot about what is going on in your life at the moment and than being able to go and look back at the snapshots.

The birth of the little lady

I finally got around to typing up my birth experience.

So here it goes.

When I gave birth to my son almost 3 years ago I did not know much about the whole process. I thought that the doctors always had the best of interests in mind for you and your baby but I learned that that is not always true. I had always wanted to have a natural childbirth but I thought that it would just come naturally. Boy was I wrong. After having my doctor with the little man tell me that being induced was a good thing, I was all over it. I got sucked into the trap. Luckily I did not end up on the operating table with my son. He still came into the world healthy but I knew that there had to be something that I could do to have a better experience next time. I read about it, asked others about it, watched movies on it I had my heart set on doing it with my next baby. I think that having a Doula there was one of the best choices that I could have made to help me get the outcome that I wanted, a natural childbirth. So here is my story of how my little lady came into the world.

On the morning of Thursday March 4th I woke up bound and determined to see my baby girl today. I made up a castor oil milkshake and sat down at the computer like I do every morning. By 7:30 am I had finished my shake and I was motivated to get a few last minute things done around the house.

I washed all the sheets on our beds, did the last of the dishes in the sink and just waited for something to happen. Before I knew it the clock was striking noon and I was still not feeling any different. A little frustrated I contacted my Doula, Dianne. She told me that I could make another shake and we will see where it goes from then. This time I made more of a smoothie style. Since the little man was now awake I made it first without castor oil and then after he had his glass I added the main ingredient.
After seeing an ad for Arby’s on the counter I convinced the hubby to help me fulfill one last craving. So on the way to the Arby’s just up the road I chugged my smoothing and then engorged on the world’s most unhealthy fries. I was trying to be optimistic about the shake working but by the time late afternoon slipped into evening I thought that maybe this little girl just is not ready to come out yet.

With evening here we decided to head on over to Target and the mall to get some last minute items that might come in handy. After having another craving of overpriced movie theater popcorn and making our way around the whole mall, we were on our way home, still was not feeling any different.

Once we where home we all got our PJ’s on and climbed into our bed for some family snuggle time. After looking at the clock at almost 10:30pm we moved the sound asleep little man into his bed. I could not believe that neither the shake or the smoothie or the walking helped to start labor. I sat there reading for a little while and then shortly after 11:00 pm I figured I should get some sleep.

At 11:45pm I woke up to a very strange feeling and I rolled over and asked the hubby go get a towel quick. My water had broke (in my bed on my nice clean sheets). I jumped up and headed to the bathroom. All was clear and good but still no contractions. After a little debate about the time of night I did decide to call Dianne and ask her what she thought I should do. She told me to try to get some rest until the contractions started and if I nothing had changed by 6:00 am than to give her a call.

At about 12:30 am after cleaning up the bed, I tried to lie back down but before I could do that here were that contractions. They stated off about 7 minutes apart but quickly moved to about 5. We made sure that the bags were all packed and ready, the hubby started packing the car and I made one last phone call to Dianne. I told her that we were going to get the little man up and down to my parent’s house and head on over to the hospital because the hubby was so worried that if we waited around at home too long that the baby was going to be born here. She said that she would meet us there. So by about 2:00 am we were in the car headed down the road after one last search around the house for the MP3 player.

Dropping the little man off was very hard for me. He was half asleep not really knowing what was going on. Let’s just call this time very emotional for the both of us. After some tears I told the little man that he would get to see us and his sister in the morning and we were off.

As we pulled up to the hospital at just before 2:30 am, Dianne was already there waiting for us. It was so nice to see here friendly face since I was a little unsure about the adventure that I had started on. My contractions were now about 3 minutes apart and I was being wheeled up to labor and delivery.

Once in my room and changed into the lovely hospital gown I was hooked up for some monitoring and a heparin lock was inserted just incase it was need. At this time I was a good 4 centimeters. I was now starting to have some back labor and the bed was not a very comfortable place to be. After what seemed like forever (about an hour) I was finally a 6 and I was able to leave the bed and make my way on over to the jetted bathtub. The water and bubbles felt so nice.

Most of what happed next was a big blur. At some point I got out of the water, threw up all over myself, the hubby and the bathroom, and changed out of my wet tank top. I was still having some horrible pain in my lower back so I was trying many different possessions. I can remember saying that I could not do it anymore and having two great support people telling me that I could. I remember telling them that I just wanted to get the drugs and be done and them telling me that I could do it.

By 5:00 am the on call doctor came in to check me and I was a 10. I got back into the bed ready to push this baby out. I thought that the desire to push was going to be stronger than it was but before I knew it they were asking me if I wanted to touch my baby’s head and I remember saying ‘No I just want to get her out.’ Just a few more pushes later and she was here at 5:33 am, greeting the world face up. She was placed on my chest. I could not believe that she was finally here.

When the bleeding would not stop, she was removed from my chest and placed safely in the hubbies arms. The heparin lock that they had put in for ‘just incase’ did not work so another one was placed in my other arm so that I could get the medicine I needed to stop the bleeding. After losing about a litter it was finally under control.

We were both cleaned up and our family of three was now a family of four. I could not believe that I had really done it. I felt like my birth plan was more like a script than a plan. I don’t really feel any different as a mom or a person. I don’t feel like I am better than anyone else. I just feel happy for myself. I am not left wondering ‘if’ I could have done it. I did it.

One week

I has been one week...
since I last felt you move in my belly.
since you made your way into the world.
since I first saw your tiny face, held your tiny hands, counted your tiny toes and kissed your tiny head.

It had been a week...
since I became a mama of two.
since we became a family of four.
since I found more love in my heart than I ever knew possible.

It has been a week full of many emotions.
Tears of joy, sadness, and unexplained emotions.
Many moments of laughter, happiness and love.

It has been a week that I will never forget.

Its so easy...

A few weeks ago we told the little man that his uncle is on TV. This is not totally true. There is just someone on TV that looks like him. Here is the whole story.

I have a brother that I dont see very often and that the little man has only meet once. During that one meeting the little man grew very fond of him.

The little man and his uncle Doug in January 2009.

So since he does not get to see him very much we told him that the caveman on the Geico Advertisements is Uncle Doug.

You have got to admit it, they do look a lot alike.

I wrote this post out of love not hate.

The difference a year makes

Thanksgiving day has come and gone.
I guess I did an OK job on my first Thanksgiving dinner. I dont know if I am going to host it next year. I ONLY forgot to make the broccoli salad, cought the oven on fire and put way too much sugar in the whip cream. I could not of done it with out my Sister or my Mom. We will be eating turkey for weeks. We cooked a 22 lb bird. I think I am going to grow feathers and start saying gobble, gobble before we eat all of this turkey. It was a great low key evening. The kid played well with each other and the Little man did not pee his pants!!!
In years past my hubby spends the day after putting up tons and tons of lights (over a week or more) but this year we only put up a few strans (thanks to the economy).
Here are a few pictures to compare from last year.

Last years lights...
