Today 05/04/11

We were awaken to the beautiful sunshine this morning. To bad the hubby is not feeling so hot. I dont know if it is a cold or allergies but either way he is not feeling so good. He even called in sick and spent most of the day in bed.
The littles and I got up and got ready for a play date. The weather was so nice we decided to walk the 10 blocks. I was not so worried about the walk there but more worried about the walk home.
If you dont know our small town is a large hill. Our house is just about on the top. So for me to walk to this play date it was all down hill there but than on the way home I was pushing a double stroller and two kids (50+ lbs) up the hill. But I made it, and it felt good.
The little lady fell asleep on the walk home and moved into her bed without even waking. And to my surprise she took a 3 hour nap. It was nice. While she was napping the little man decided to crawl into bed with the hubby and they both took naps also.
So I had the whole quiet house to my self for a good hour and a half.
So while everyone napped I sewed a Mei Tai for a friend. I just loved how it turned out.
I think that I am going to have to sew myself another one. They are just too cute.
I used it a lot when the little lady was smaller but then for some reason I now just always reach for my Ergo. I like the Ergo but its just not nearly as cute as the Mei Tai or as soft or made with as much love.
First I have to get thought my large pile of items that need to be sewn and than maybe I can sew me something... oh wait.. than I need to go through my knitting pile.
Why cant there just be a few more hours in the day?

Cooking and eating

I have a love/hate relationship with cooking.
I know that it is something that I want to do as a wife and mother but it can be draining. Maybe I made it that way by putting eating healthy way up on my list of things that I find important in life.
Its hard if not imposable to eat healthy without cooking. I mean I guess I could stock my freezer full of Kashai and Amy's frozen meals but I dont have the money nor desire to do that. Then there is all the waste from the packaging but I am not going into that right now.
So until unless our family decides to go on a raw food/ vegan diet, I am going to have to cook.
Sometimes I get adventurous and try new recipes but most of the time I will stick to the basics.
Cooking with the littles under toe is both fun and challenging.
The little man can be a big help.

The little lady on the other had is not as helpful yet. She tries but most of the time she ends up helping by getting on my back in the Ergo.
She is still in the action but not right in it.
There has been a few times when I have been cooking dinner and she will some in dragging the Ergo behind her wanting to get up, snuggle and help.
But the best part of cooking is getting to eat.

Camera tricks

My little left handed artist has been at it again.
This time is not a drawing of me. Lets see if you can tell what he drew.
What do you see?
If you said motorcycle than you were right on. He did a good job if I can say so myself. To bad once again it was on his dry erase board. Oh well I guess that is what cameras are for.
I have been playing around with my camera a little bit more lately. It may be old(er) technology but it can still take good pictures. Editing them is part of the fun also.
I edited this picture to give it the fish eye effect without spending the hundreds of dollars on the real thing. I just love the way it turned out. I am warning you all now that you might see many more fish eye photos to come.

Seeing double

I spent most of the day in the kitchen today.
I started it off with a double batch of banana bread. So the little lady took her morning nap in ergo while I made the bread. I was just pulling it out of the oven as the little man woke up. So we all sat down and enjoyed the warm delicious goodness.
Once the banana bread was done I had a double batch of zucchini bread to go in.
As it cooked I was able to clean up the playroom and give the kids a bath.
Later on in the afternoon I made another double batch but this time of strawberry freezer jam.
Before I knew it it was time for me to start dinner. So as the little lady slept, yet again in the ergo, I made calzones stuffed full with whatever leftover that I had in the fridge.
After dinner I packed the little mans bag and dropped him off for his first sleepover at a friends house. Tear.

Baby wearing toddler

Most of the time he is 'all boy.' All he wants to do is drive cars, build legos, mow the grass, work on things and do just about anything that the hubby is doing.

I am not complaining. I love it. It is super cute.
Tonight his toy of choice was not something that can cut down trees or drive real fast, it was a baby doll.
He was playing with it for a little while before he looked up at me and asked if I had a sling for the baby.
We looked around in my overflowing fabric cabinet before we found the right piece of fabric. A one foot wide strip of orange left over from making his duvet cover for his bed.

It was perfect. And the baby fit so nicely right inside.

Once his baby was all snug in the sling he asked me very nicely if I could put the little lady in the sling also. My ring sling was in the car that the hubby took so I tried out my pocket sling for the first time with the little lady.
She seamed to like it. I am still a little to large to use it and wear it comfortably. I used it all the time when the little man little but I was a few pounds liter.
So we did a little house work with our naked babies in our slings.

But as soon as the hubby got home the sling was traded for a power tool and he was back to being 'all boy.'

Hunting for eggs

Waiting for the hunt to start.

We were lucky that the rain stayed away at least for a little while.

Of course the little lady was hanging out in the sling eating and sleeping.

Ready to start hunting.

Look at all of the eggs.
We got much more than we did last year.
The little man cant wait for next year.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful Easter.

I miss the sun

Saturday was beautiful. The sun was shining and the birds were singing.

Today is not so beautiful. Unless you really like the rain, hail and wind.

I am so glad that on Saturday we were able to get out and enjoy the weather. The little lady had her first trip to the park.

We...

climbed steps

slid down slides

eat crackers

climbed up really high

and practiced driving.

What was the little lady doing when we were having all this fun?

Sleeping in the sling of course.

Speaking of the little lady, my sisters little lady is turning two on Sunday. To help celebrate, my sister is having a giveaway. Head on over to her blog, leave a comment about why you love having a girl and enter to win some super cute shoes for her.

Two days of outings

Yesterday we had our norm play date at 9am. We had to leave it a little early and headed over to the local book store for another get together. After lunch two other moms and I headed over to the mall for some window shopping and some much needed walking. The little man took his nap in the mei tai for about an hour (much shorter than normal). We got home just after 3pm.
Today we headed over to my sisters house to spend some time with her two little ones while she was at work. We got there just after 9am. The little man had a blast playing with his cousins. He was so tired by the time we left at just after 2pm he put his blanket over his face and was out.

I did not want to wake him up so I hung around my parents house for a while and when he woke up he wanted to play in 'Grampa' and 'Grammas' very cool play closet. They just put up a white board and the little man enjoyed coloring on it.

Yes, I have that child

When we finally got home I decided my neglected house needed some TLC. Where to start? The pile of dishes in the sink sounded good. The little man helped me put the spoons in.

They are never to young to learn to help mama out a little.

Asleep on the job

This weekend the little man was standing on a stool by the front door looking out the window. When he went to get off he fill into the living room and hit his chin on the hard wood floor. He started screaming and before I knew it there was blood coming from his mouth. When I was able to get a look into his mouth I saw that he bit both sides of his tounge. On Sunday morning he work up in bed with us and we noticed that he had a big bruise under his chin. In this picture that I took today you can really see the bruise.

He was so grumpy and tired today the only thing that kept him happy was for me to hold him. So I put him in the wrap and did the dishes. Before I was even done with them he was sound asleep. It was only 10:30 in the morning. So he slept until about 12:30. Since he did not have a "normal" nap he was asleep for the night before 8pm. (The has got to be a recorded in our house)
