Bike rides in the fallen leaves and making it home before it gets to dark, which comes way to early at 7:30

Homemade treats for teachers

Riding the little yellow school bus to school and being the big man in school

Wearing long sleeves and leg warmers and learning the joys of pockets

Pulling out the almost forgotten needles and starting a fall hat (in an amazing shade of orange)

Finding ways to bring nature in

Hunting for your favorite leaf and having a hard time finding just the right one.

Canning and enjoying your harvest all season long

The little mans day

Today my little man turned four.
We started off the day when he joined me in my bed at 745am. I think he was just so excited about it being his birthday that he just could not sleep any more. This was probably one of the best parts of the whole day. It brought me back to when he was a little baby and we would lay in bed til 10am most days just soaking up each other.
We got to lay in bed for a little while before the little lady started calling my name.
Last night before we went off to sleep the little man and I made chocolate dipped pretzels to share with his friends after play to learn.
So when he got up we had to try them again to make sure that they were still yummy.
We just melted up some natural chocolate chips and dipped Trader Joe's honey wheat pretzels in to the chocolate. Put them on some wax paper and let them dry.
All his friends and their mamas enjoyed them.
Today was a beautiful day so we were able to play at the park and go for a walk up to the library and the store.
When I asked the little man what he would like for his birthday dinner he replayed 'pizza and hot dogs.' There was only one place I could think of that we like to eat at that has that combo, so we had dinner at Costco. There were a few things I needed to pick up there also.
You cant have a pirate birthday party without Pirate Booty.
I also decided last night that it would be fun to knit all of the kids pirate patches. I dont know why I come up with these crazy ideas. I guess I like to be stressed. So on top of getting the whole house clean by Sunday I now decided that I am going to knit up 20 or so pirate patches. Why!?!
They are very cute though.

I am using the scarvy eye patch pattern on Ravelry. The only thing that I have going for me is that they knit up really fast. I think that it took me all of 30 minutes last night to make one.
So one down 19 more to go.
The little man has now decided that he is no longer a baby since he is four. But in my eyes he will always be my baby.
***Sorry about being MIA for a week and the lack of photos in the posts. The little lady is working on her top molars so that is really disrupting my sleep lately. I dont know why but some days I take lots of pictures and other I take none but its getting them on the computer that is the hardest part. So then I just end up resorting to the ones that are on the phone. Not the greatest but better than nothing. Maybe things will get better, one can only hope.

Snow day

It started snowing Sunday while this guy

was putting Christmas lights up at Church.
And it never really stopped snowing on Sunday.

My not so good attempt at getting a family snow picture.
Good thing I finished the little ladys snow hat just in time for her first snow.
I kind of followed this hat pattern. I wanted to use some worsted weight wool yarn that I had and also size 4 needles. So after two froggings I ended up with this hat. Its a little big (it even fits the little man) but it will do. I added a chin strap and bottom to help keep it on her head.
Monday it snowed most of the day and the littles spent some time outside enjoying it.

The day could not be complete with out a few snow balls.

Today is going to be a whopping 26 degrees. Brrrr. Even though its cold the sun is shining today and who knows how much longer the fluffy white stuff will be here so we are going to get outside and play.

Green Halloween

We got together one night this week to have a green Halloween party. There were crafts, games, plenty of baked goods to share and you cant have a Halloween party without apple cider. The little man was very excited to dress up in his cowboy costume (but he would not put on his hat).

This is an improvement over last year when he would not even wear his costume.
The little man came up with is costume idea all on his own. It all started with the brown cowboy boots my mom bought him a year or so ago. The yellow shirt he had hanging in his closet and the pants were borrowed from his friend 'Row'. 'Row' also let us borrow his belt and buckle but it was just a little to big so we had to make do with a cheap fake leather one.
I made him the cow print vest to look like 'Woodys'. It is lined with brown fleece and even added a sheriff badge to it.

I think that he really like his costume.

I tried to get a picture of both kids sitting on the hay but the little man wanted nothing to do with it until the little lady was already out of her costume and all most asleep in the Ergo, so I had to settle for one of the cowboy with out his horse.

Thats right the little lady is a horse this year for Halloween.

Her costume is made up of a tan shirt, brown shoes, tan corduroy pants complete with braided brown tail and a mama knitted tan hat with ears, a brown mane and  braided ties were added to help keep it on

I did not have a pattern for the hat so I just kind of made it up as I knitted. It did not really turn out the exact way that I wanted but I looks very cute on her (when she leaves it on).
Our pumpkins this year even decided to join in on the green festivities by staying green. We moved them into the house earlier this week and it has seemed to bring out there orange side. Maybe in the next week or two we will paint/ carve them.

I have been knitting

I finished two knitting projects last week and one the week before.

Two weeks ago I made a diaper cover for a friend using this pattern from Ravelry. The pattern is really simple. I have knitted up a few now but I just dont have a baby to try them on yet. I hope that it is a good fit. The medium fit the little man perfectly just over his underwear.

I also knitted up this hat for a friend at church. Another simple pattern. I would say that the hat runs a little big. I am thinking of making one for myself but I will have to adjust the pattern a little so that it fits my head.

I also knitted the little man this cookie monster hat.

He really wanted a cookie hat but once I had it finished he wanted nothing to do with it. I can get him to wear it when he goes outside. I just knitted it with some cheep acrylic yarn that I had. I did not really follow a pattern. It is a little big, and the eyes look supper silly, but we were out a few days ago and a lady I did not know knew that it was cookie monster so that made me feel good. I might have to try doing another one that looks a little better.

My needles are now empty so I guess it is time to start something new. Something for me, the little man, the hubby or the bun I just cant decide. If I am going to start anything for the bun I should wait until next Monday when I should find out what it is. So maybe I should start a hat for me or maybe venture out ant try some socks.

One down

I knitted my first baby hat to give away yesterday. Since there are 10 lady's that I know right now that are going to be having baby's or had a baby in the past week I decided they all need knitted hats. It is also a big money saver since it is a little tight right now. So this is just the first of many.

I knitted it with 100% cotton yarn so that it would be nice and soft along with washable. I got the pattern here and played with it a little to make it my own. I has some flaws but it should still be warm along with stylish.
When I finished the hat yesterday I had to run over and give it to her to see if it fit (well I guess I walked, they only live a few blocks away). It looked so cute on her head, still a little big but she will grow into it.
Hopefully soon I will post a picture of her wearing it.
Well I guess I need to get knitting, nine more to go.

It has been a week already

Pockets

Where did the week go. So I guess I should do a little recap.

Last Saturday I changed the little mans bed into a big boy toddler bed. My hubby was not excited as I was about it. He did a great job staying in it the first few nights but he soon learned that he can climb out of it at night. So you hear the slamming open of his door and then the pitter patter of his feet coming down the hallway right to our bedroom. He pushed open out door, I come and find him and he leades me back to his room where he wants me to sit in the rocking chair with him. Well this has only happened a few times, most of the times he still cries when he wakes up.

I think that everything is going really well. He has not slept in our bed for 5 nights or so. I think that once we get him to want to sleep in his bed more than we can start working on the other night time issues. The hubby wants to changes his bed back to a crib so that we can sleep train him (sad), but than once we change this bed back to a toddler bed than we will have the same problems again. I say if he really wants to sleep train him we need to do it while he is in a toddler bed.

Well anyway on a much less controversial subject I finished my first scarf. I think that I still want to add some flowers to it.

On Thursday at MOPS our subject was friends. I was so nice to hear that I am not the only one out there in the world looking for friends. They reminded me that I need to look beside me, behind me, and before me for friends. Just because someones kids are not the same age as my kid or even if they dont have any kids at all does not mean that they cant be my friend. I just need to remember to make time for them.

I hope that every ones week went well and I am so glad that it stopped raining.

Look what we made

Yesterday the little man and I made a fort. A few night ago we were playing around in our bed pulling the covers over his head. He was having fun he even asked for elmo to come join him but it was bed time so I told him next time elmo could join us. So as soon as our fort was built he went and got elmo and we had breakfast in the tent.

He even tried to feed elmo some of his apple

He enjoyed it so much it is still set up.

I also made something else. I knitted the little man a hat. I was so inspired by my scarf that I needed to start a new knitting project. I did not know what to make but I found two different types of green yarn and just started knitting. I knew I wanted to do stripes but that was all I knew. It was not until this afternoon that I knew that it was going to be a hat. So here it is. It is not perfect but neither am I.

I finally finished one

After many, many months I have finally finished a knitting project. It may not be pretty or functional but I made it. It was going to be a scarf. I decided to use 1 1/2 inch strips of fabric instead of yarn so that it would hide all of my flaws. I think that it would of looked good if it was twice as long, but I ran out of fabric. Now I guess it will have to be a blanket for the little mans baby dolls or maybe a dish towel. What ever it becomes I will always know that it was my first thing I ever knitted all the way through and I guess I am proud of that.
